AMD’s RDNA 2 answer to Nvidia’s RTX 3000 Series to be announced on 28th October

No more than two weeks ago, the 3000 RTX series was announced by Nvidia. Jensen Huang showed up on several different streaming websites such as Twitch or Youtube and showed the audience what they have been “cooking” for this past year. For most of us enthusiasts, it was quite the announcement. But, we still need to wait and see what will happen at during AMD’s RDNA 2 launch.

The RTX 3070 will come out on October 15 and at the $500 price point. The RTX 3080 will be around $700 and will release on 17th September. Finally, on September 24, the RTX 3090 will release at a price point of $1500.

Both the 3070 and a 3080 sound very promising, offering great performance leap over the last generation at a great price. The 3090 definitely holds the place for the most expensive GPU on the market. But, it will also be the best GPU in the world with 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM that can withstand 8K at 60 FPS.

Naturally, most people will be interested in the 3070, 3080, and what AMD has to offer. But, do they really have anything interesting to offer to enthusiasts?

AMD’s RDNA 2 might be the answer that we all need

During these last few GPU generations from both companies, AMD has had a lot of trouble keeping up against the leading company in the GPU industry, Nvidia. Of course, not everything has been bad. AMD has always managed to produce a GPU that is very competitive to Nvidia’s offers.

Both the RX 480 and the RX 580 were a great option against the GTX 1060. In fact, today, with driver improvements, the RX 580 is quite faster than the GTX 1060. There definitely is a reason why people should still go with AMD.

However, there was not a response to the GTX 1070, the GTX 1080, and even the GTX 1080 TI. Sadly, AMD was unable to compete in this high-end range of GPUs. Nvidia has been ruling with the market during this time.

Because of this, Nvidia had the freedom to play with their pricing as much as they want. That is probably the reason why the RTX 2000 series was so expensive. Every successor to the 1000 series came with a $100 increase in pricing.

For many of us, this was unacceptable. Unfortunately, there was no alternative. If you need the most powerful GPU, your only option is the RTX 2080 TI. There is no alternative.

But, it seems like AMD’s RDNA 2 might have a promising future. This is probably the reason why the RTX 3000 series came at a much lower price point when compared to the RTX 2000 series. It seems like Nvidia knows and understands that something big is coming.

Leaks look promising

After the announcement about the reveal of we would see Zen 3 on 10th October and RDNA 2 on 28th October, there have been several leaks regarding “Big Navi”. Big Navi is the codename that most people use to refer to the graphic that will battle against the higher end of RTX 3000.

Obviously, we cannot exactly rely on leaks. We can never know whether they are true or not. But, if they are true, we might actually see some real competitiveness this year and in 2021.

Leaks show that Big Navi will come with GDDR6 memory and that some of them may come with 16GB of VRAM. Considering the fact that the $700 3080 comes with only 10 GB of VRAM, 16 GB of VRAM is a lot. It is also rumored that there will be a 60% improved performance per watt compared to the previous generation. More specifically, the 5700 and the 5600 series.

A rumor of four different SKUs battling against the 3070, 3080, 3080Ti, and 3090.

But, as I said previously, these leaks of information are just a rumor and they may not be true. But, if they are real, the GPU world will finally be back on its feet.
